Come with me on a journey. I am a teacher who has been in the classroom for 35 years. During the last 4 years, I've had unusual exposure to experiences outside of the classroom and in the classrooms of other teachers across the country. Meet Maryann Woods-Murphy
This blog began as a chronicle of my journey as the 2009-2010 New Jersey Teacher of the Year. I officially concluded my "reign" as the NJTOY on October 6th, 2010.
In September, 2013, I will begin a new job as the Gifted and Talented Specialist in a suburban school district in New Jersey. Two years ago, I spent a year in D.C., as one of five Washington Teaching Ambassador Fellows who were working in the U.S. Dept. of Education for a year under a Senior Adviser.
This blog, however, does not in any way represent the views or opinions of the Dept of Education, nor that of my current or former school districts. It is a personal blog where I invite you into my life to share a few observations and experiences. I represent nobody but myself. I hope you enjoy sharing the ride with me!

Thanks for coming by! It means a lot to me that you care about these stories. I put them out there in case they might be helpful to you.
Maybe they will make you smile or feel a moment of awkwardness with me. Perhaps, like me, you feel less alone on the planet when sharing a daily story, like a chunk of rich bread we need to survive.
I love stories that put it all out there- the struggles, the irritations, the worries. Not every story is an epic tale or part of the Great American Novel, but I believe that real people learn to care about each other through the stories we share. It just makes life better.

¡Felicitaciones, de todo corazón, maestra! From Delia Tasso, a Turin-based Spanish translator who as an acquaintance of a Paul Conlon's came to Teaneck on a cold morning in the early nineties. I remember you and Joe bought me lunch in a Chinese restaurant. As it happens, the story of the Murphy spies rang a bell, I started surfing for you, and here you are, ¡nada más y nada menos que con el presidente Obama! Un abrazo.
